Ronny Huybrechts: The Belgian Rebel of Darts

Ronny Huybrechts is a name well respected in the world of professional darts. Born on July 20, 1965, in Antwerp, Belgium, Ronny emerged as a formidable player on the international darts scene during the 2010s, representing a breakthrough for Belgian darts alongside his younger brother, Kim Huybrechts. Known for his gritty style, consistent scoring, and calm demeanor, Ronny helped put Belgium on the map in a sport traditionally dominated by players from the UK and the Netherlands.

Ronny first rose to prominence in the 2013 PDC World Cup of Darts, partnering with Kim. The Huybrechts brothers shocked the darts world by reaching the final, defeating teams such as Australia and Finland. Though they fell to England in the final, their performance was electric and marked a pivotal moment for both Ronny and Belgian darts overall.

Later that year, Ronny made his individual breakthrough at the 2013 German Darts Masters, where he reached the semi-finals, impressing with wins over top names like Dave Chisnall and Peter Wright. He also qualified for several major televised events, including the Grand Slam of Darts, the World Matchplay, and the PDC World Championship. His steady performances earned him a solid reputation as a dangerous opponent, capable of big upsets on the big stage.

Ronny’s throwing style is smooth and deliberate, and he’s known for his composure under pressure. He may not be the flashiest player, but his reliability and fighting spirit earned him the nickname "The Rebel." His presence also brought a refreshing maturity to the tour, proving that it's never too late to make a mark in darts, as Ronny turned professional in his late 40s.

Though his younger brother Kim achieved a slightly higher profile in the sport, Ronny’s contributions have been equally valuable, especially in showcasing the strength and depth of Belgian darts. Over time, Ronny has become a fan favourite for his no-nonsense style and humble approach.

In recent years, his appearances on the tour have been more limited, but Ronny remains a respected figure in darts circles. Whether competing or supporting from the side-lines, his impact continues to resonate. For many fans, Ronny Huybrechts will always be remembered as a trailblazer—proof that with determination and belief, age is no barrier to success in the world of darts.

Upon signing for Loxley Darts during Q School in Germany, Ronny immediately celebrated this by winning a PDC Tour Card - one of the oldest players ever to achieve this feat. Following a couple of years on the tour, Ronny decided to take it more easy with his schedule as conflicts with his day job meant he couldn't fully commit to the PDC. Instead he has now been invited to the 2026 Seniors World Championships.
